Australia Day and Triple J's Hottest 100
It's crazy how fast time is going lately, I completely forget that it's 2015 like we're at the end of January already and it's really crazy, I cannot even keep up! So Australia Day is all about catching up with your mates, drinking some alcoholic beverages and accompanying them with a drinking game, and taking out that barbie or barbecue for anyone who doesn't know what that is and cooking up some snags, also known as sausages.
Here's a few, or a lot of, Australia Day selfies for you guys, I've noticed that I take a lot of selfies more than I take photos with my friends.

2014 was an incredible year in music and as always Triple J attracted people to vote for their favourite song of the year. The Hottest 100 is based off your choice in songs, so you pick 10 songs on the Triple J website and the votes are then tallied from that.
TRIPLE J'S HOTTEST 100 2014
If you missed listening to the Hottest 100, forgot about the countdown altogether and just completely forgot about it even though you were listening to it in the background, let's check out the list of your favourite songs from 2014. If you voted, is your top 10 int there, what are they, and if not, what would you change?
My top 10 for 2014 was a pretty decent mix and really shows off the fact that my music taste is so diverse, it goes from pop to rock to alternative to R&B to indie? Don't even ask. Most of my choices were based off the top of my head, rather than analysing the music of 2014, if I could, I would go back and change my top 10 but at the time I thought yeah why not!
Mark Ronson - Uptown Funk (feat. Bruno Mars)
I predicted Uptown Funk to hit number 1 for 2014, it was released later in the year, in fact, it wasn't meant to be released so early according to media reports. Although it didn't hit number 1, it made top 10 and despite it's late release, it's really made shock waves in the international charts as well as the music industry.
Millions - Always
Yet another band who deserves credit for their music, I previously told you guys about them in my blog post 'Best Music of 2014' and to my shock this band was snubbed this year . Their album 'Max Relax' was one of my favourites of 2014 and hopefully this long-time, thrift shopping, turtle-neck wearing band will start to make an impact on the music industry, it's time music lovers got onto it.
Chet Faker - Talk Is Cheap
I have to say that I was actually so surprised that 'Talk Is Cheap' actually made it to top spot of the Hottest 100, I mean Chet Faker is vocally inspiring and he's really bringing back a 90s sound in his album 'Built On Glass' but I didn't think it'd beat 'Uptown Funk'. However, Chet Faker had the advantage of releasing his debut studio album 'Built On Glass', earlier in the year, and hit number 1 on the ARIA Australian Albums and the Australia iTunes Charts, it also made waves around the world which wasn't not surprising at all.
Dillion Francis & DJ Snake - Get Low
At the time of voting, the Fast and Furious 7 movie trailer had hit the internet and I had heard this song a while ago before it and Dillion Francis doesn't get much credit for his music but as soon as he collaborated with DJ Snake it was like everyone started noticing him and appreciating the electronic sounds he produces.
Lorde - Tennis Court (Flume Remix)
I have to say that I've missed Flume being around in the music charts and the industry as a whole. 2013 was an incredible year for him and really put his name out there and gained him a fan base, however, in 2014, he really slowed it down and chilled out a bit by going around the globe to perform his tunes, then suddenly he popped out of nowhere on social media and released a remix of Lorde's 'Tennis Court' which didn't come as a shock to me as they became a very cosy dynamic duo during 2013's award season and I'm totally fine with that because a collaboration with these two would be insanely good.
Skrillex - Stranger (feat. KillaGraham and Sam Dew)
Alright, yes, I voted for a Skrillex song, I have to admit I'm not a massive fan of the screeching techno sound but Sam Dew's vocals are the most memorable thing about this track and it's surprising because you think you'd remember the screeching sounds but you honestly just get so involved in the lyrics and the vocal capabilities of Sam Dew it's crazy.
Calvin Harris - Pray To God (feat. HAIM)
When I heard HAIM were collaborating with Calvin Harris I was a bit taken a back and wasn't sure how this would pan out but as soon as I heard the tune, I immediately loved it and thanked god for this collaboration. The song reminds me of HAIM's sound despite the electronic feel but also reminds me of retro music purely because the beat is, dare I say, groovy.
Circa Waves - Stuck In My Teeth
This band is becoming one of my favourite bands ever, they've only recently just formed and their EP 'Young Chasers' hit the industry of music in 2014. With a studio album being released 2015 I feel like this will make (circa) waves, after supporting The 1975 on their Australia-leg of their tour, I noticed a lot more people getting into them and a lot more people have been doing their research about them. If you're a fan of Arctic Monkeys, Catfish & Bottlemen, The 1975, Royal Blood, The Libertines and The Orwells, you'll love this band and their vibe for sure. I was really shocked to see that none of their songs featured in the Hottest 100, but then again they're still pretty much on the down low and maybe their popularity will increase once their debut album is released.
Allday - You Always Know The DJ
I think you all know by now how much of a fan I am of Allday, I love what he's about and his music is amazing, I really hate that Australian rappers don't get enough credit and I wish people would give the genre a chance and help Australian performers get out there and become more popular. Australia needs to start supporting more home-grown talent or we'll just keep pushing them away to other countries and they'll claim them as their own once they've reached their well-deserved fame. I was really glad to see that Allay had two tunes in the Hottest 100, if I could high-five him, I would.
A$AP Rocky - In Distress (feat. Gesaffelstein)
I'm a huge lover of rap music and you know it's good when it comes from the A$AP mob. I really just love this song for it's gangster qualities and sick beat, there's not much I can add to it that'll intrigue you but I feel like it's customary to listen to the A$AP mob or know of them and their music even if you're not fan.
Before we go on to see the official countdown here are some fun facts: Four Chet Faker songs were ranked in the Hottest 100, and Chet Faker became the second artist to chart three times in the top 10 rankings after Powderfinger achieved this in 2003. The countdown of 2014 featured a total of 59 Australian entries, this proving that Australian music is making a great impact on the nation as a whole and international listeners widening their love of Australian music. The previous record was 52 Australian entries which was set in 1999, and once again 2007 when history repeated itself.
