How I Got Through January

by - Wednesday, February 04, 2015

The first month is always the hardest to get through, you want to tackle all your New Years Resolutions at once and your head is spinning because it's actually a new year. I don't know about you, but January went so quickly for me, I blinked and the month was over. I felt like I hadn't achieved anything at all! A lot of my New Years Resolutions went untouched, mere memories to me.

Onto the pressing issue at hand, how did I actually get through January? Despite the fact that I do not have a repetitive routine at the moment, I plan to motivate myself to at least tick off a majority of my New Years Resolutions, one at a time. One of my secret resolutions was to motivate myself by getting ready every single day. This sounds silly but I feel a lot more motivated in tackling the day and its tasks when I plan my outfit the night before and begin the day by waking up, washing my face, moisturising and then getting changed into the chosen outfit based on the weather of the day. Then of course, making a coffee, 1/4 cup of milk, steamed and frothed, 1 sugar, 1 short black, and voila there's a latte for you, if you're bothered making it yourself and releasing your inner barista. Although this is a regular daily routine, due to the fact that my sleeping pattern is quite muddled at the moment, I wake up at different times every morning, and the resolution here is to fix the sleep pattern, or non-existent one and then I'll be content. Main object here is to go to bed earlier, wake up earlier, and continuously do this and train my body. Hopefully when I update you guys on this, I'll have accomplished this, so keep your fingers crossed for me.

One of the other ways I got through the quickest month ever, is buy purchasing stationary from Kikki K. If you're like me and have a love for stationary, then you'd know that there's nothing better that stationary shopping and owning new stationary. Whenever I buy stationary I feel like a new person and feel so organised.

I am in love with my Kikki K diary, it's got everything I need and I brought matching pens for the diary and plan on buying the entire range because I know I'll be owning everything for a very long time. I try to take time out of my day to write in the diary and organise myself, sometimes I don't really have the time and just fix everything when I do. But other than that, not only do I feel organised but the stationary is so pretty! If you're looking for alternatives to Kikki K, check out Typo, NoteMaker, OfficeWorks, Kate Spade and Kaisercraft.

Now to the beauty buys of January, a girl can't resist buying makeup, it's a necessity.

Thanks to Priceline I received a $5 voucher, it's not much but it really tempted to purchase something. Strolling through the beauty aisle, I laid my eyes upon this cheap smoky eyeshadow palette. I'd never heard of the brand, but it was $3, I couldn't resist. The 'Beauty Essentials' eye shadow palette consists of 10 smoky shades. I was skeptical of how cheap it was but when I finally tried it, the results were shocking. The pigmentation wasn't as bad as I thought it would be and the coverage lasted a lot longer than expected. I enjoyed trying smoky eyed looks and found it enjoyable to use the palette. The only downfall is that I hate eyeshadow applicators, I mean the applicators do the job but I'm more of a fan of brushes as the brush makes it easier to apply and the coverage is better. But that's just a small flaw in my eyes, the palette is $3, and despite the price tag, the palette quality is at a good standard. There is also a natural eye palette but I was unable to find it, but when I do, I'm so buying it.

I didn't just buy the eyeshadow palette, but brought something I'd be dying to have for a while now. The Australis 'AC ON TOUR' Contouring and Highlighting Kit has been causing a rave and I wanted to know what the fuss is about. For me, I'm new to properly contouring using highlighters and bronzers, as I have a compact that can allow you to slightly contour. The thing that I love about the kit is the fact that there are instructions included, so you're not going in blind or have to look up how to contour or watch tutorial videos, for me I don't have time so written instructions are ideal. For me, as I'm not a professional makeup artist and I'm just learning as I go along, I found it really difficult to contour and highlight but I can't wait to get this down pat.

And that my friends, or readers, is how I got through January. I hope 2015 doesn't go as fast as the first month of the year did because I do want to blink without fast-tracking to a new month and live a little you know.
