Hey guys, really loving the response to the blog posts, it’s been a busy and stressful week for me, and hopefully you’re all well and good. So today’s post is sort of another review like I’ve previously done in the ‘Nailed It” post, which surprisingly received a hell of a lot reads which I appreciate so much! I’ll write about hair products I use that provide protection when using products such as straighteners, curlers and hairdryers, prevent frizz and protect your hair from being bombarded by the weather.

I’ve been told to wash my hair, let it dry and then brush and/or comb it, so when I do this step-by-step procedure my hair becomes a wavy and frizzy mess. BUT, and there is a but, if I brush and/or comb my hair when it’s wet, it is less likely to become such a hot mess, however, brushing and/or combing your hair when it’s wet can cause breakage to the hair follicle and thin your hair out.

Thanks to the new Tresemmé 7 Day Keratin Smooth Heat Activated serum, I no longer have to worry about my hair going to a frenzy when I’ve brushed and/or combed it after its dry [cue sigh of relief]. This amazing serum prevents frizz, makes it more manageable and smooth and also makes it easier to style your hair, even after several days and lasts through washes. The package saying it’ll last up to 4 washes, essentially it would be more effect with both the shampoo and condition in conjunction with the serum but I just use my normal shampoo and conditioner and the results are just as good. This product has been heavily advertised on television and for good reason. The product does in fact do what it says and I highly recommend it to those who experience frizz and want to tame the beast. The only downfall of this is that in order for it to work you have to use a product that involves heat, however, as the product does contain keratin, there’s no need to worry about it damaging your hair as it will provide the protection your hair needs. I personally, use this product once week, after washing my hair, thoroughly, with shampoo and conditioner, apply 8-10 pumps (2 pumps per section of your hair) of the serum; this can be adjusted to your liking and the length of your hair, apply it to damp hair that has been towel-dried; avoiding the scalp, especially the ends as the ends are prone to drying and split ends. Finally to activate the then activate the serum use a straighter; the package indicates that you should blow dry your hair but if I don’t have time for that, I allow my hair to naturally dry while I do something else, and voila your hair is frizz free for several days even through washes. The price of the Tresemmé Keratin Smooth 7 Day Heat Activated Serum is at a reasonable price of around $5-$10 for 120mL and you get your money’s worth so go out, buy it and give it a try and see if it works for you, giving you that fresh salon feeling.

Another product I’ve been using for years now is GHD’s Smoothing Balm for hair straightening, it provides heat protection and this is so important for me because I straighten my hair once or twice a week depending on whether my hair corporates with me when it’s in its wavy, natural state and obviously if it looks good with what I wear. Once again, this product must be applied to damp hair, so preferably after a good wash with shampoo and conditioner, then straighten your hair once it’s dry. The price is a lot higher, coming in at nearly $20 for a 150mL bottle, but for me it’s honestly been worth it, I don’t use that much due to using other products so it definitely gives you more than 6 months worth, but once again this depends on how many times you need to use the product, the length of your hair and if you remember to use it. Also pricing may differ, depending on the store you go to physically or online.

There are plenty of other products of different brands, on the market that provide the same protection, coming in many forms, such a spray or serum. I did use Schwarzkopf Extra Care Straight & Glossy Zero Frizz Spray, which provided both heat protection and prevention of frizz, this product I also highly recommend, it’s once again a decent price for such a well-known and highly regarded brand, it may cost you around $10 if you’re wanting to give it a go. It’s similar to the Tresemmé product, however it’s a lightweight spray that’s activated by heat, so you just spray it on, comb it through already dry hair and straighten your hair. Although this product is good for a quick fix when you want to not worry about damaging your hair with the use of regular heat stylers and does control your hair in damp and/or humid conditions, it does wash out and I sometimes found that it doesn’t last throughout the day. I use this product mostly for quick touch ups of frizz that or fly aways.
