All about that brow
Hey guys, I finally got time to write a post! This week has been very hectic with lots of studying, exams with the help of my friend coffee. I myself am an avid fan of the good old latte with one sugar, sometimes no sugar if I'm in the mood, if you're brave, give it a go.
So, I went to Benefit Cosmetics Brow Bar and it is heaven for someone, like me, who loves their eyebrows. What makes this place an absolute haven for eyebrow lovers? These bars are staffed with licensed professionals who tend to your eyebrow needs, like brow shaping, waxing and tweezing, and primping, and loads more services like face waxing, body waxing, bikini waxing, brow tinting and so much more that'll really satisfy your beauty needs.
Being the investigator I am, I just had to check out this place for myself after researching on the internet and reading some reviews. I've been making the rounds across stores checking out make up and the prices and also researching on the little beauties. Finally, I came across the Brow Bar and did I fall with that place alright. The staff are unbelievably friendly but incredibly professional at the same time. I walked up asking for help on which brow kit was suitable for my eyebrows and funnily enough a staff member directed me to a chair, grab their best kit and applied it for me, showing me the correct technique which was incredibly beneficial to learn about. Sometimes Youtube videos are really helpful but I felt first hand experience and watching someone apply it on my face was much more beneficial. I'm not one to fill in my eyebrows, I have done it a couple times with an eyebrow pencil and a couple eyebrow kits, but at times it looks a bit unnatural for me because my eyebrows are so full already. In fact, the staff member told me I had amazing eyebrows already but to just fill it in the little bit, she merely dabbled on the brow with the wax first and then the powder, and did an incredible job. My eyebrows looked a lot more defined but in a natural way, you could hardly tell my eyebrows had been set up with an eyebrow kit.
GETTING THE PERFECT BROW
I myself both wax and pluck my eyebrows. After waxing my upper lip, I use the same strip to get hairs that are between my eyebrows, just above the nose, to eliminate that monobrow look. I then pluck my eyebrows and trim them. Now this is a funny technique, but I use nail clippers to trim my eyebrows, I know you can by little scissors that are specifically designed to trim your eyebrows, but honestly, unless I buy an eyebrow kit that has the works of a palette, tweezers, a brow brush and those little scissors, I don't believe I will be using them anytime. This nail clippers does work, either buy a spare one if you're worried about germs or just simply run hot water to get rid of the nasties from your nails.
So you know how you're meant to pluck your eyebrows up to about the edge of your nostrils, this isn't exactly true. If you want your nose to look thinner or your face just suits the longer eyebrow, go more inwards from your nostrils, if you want your nose to look a little bigger or your nose is thin, simply go up to the edge of the nostril or a little further depending on your judgement obviously, so try not to pluck all the hair off because sometimes your face suits a different look to the standard look.
Now I'll help you find the starting point, the arch and the ending point of your eyebrows, and then find the perfect thickness for them that'll define and outline them even more.
The first most important step is to measure your eyebrows, it sounds silly but this is to help you perfect the brows and allows you to outline the look of what your brows should look like before you even lay a hand on them, while ensuring the perfect brow every single time.
Starting point: Grab a mirror, look into it and using a ruler or laying the tweezers on an angle, position it sitting vertically up from the centre, or close to the centre, of your nostril, or move your starting point to the outer edge of the inner nostril or however close you want your eyebrows to be, and intersect with your top brow line. With your eyebrow pencil at the ready, mark the vertical line that matches your natural brow thickness and height. Be sure to make the starting point of your eyebrow a right angle
because this defines your eyebrow and looks best this way.
Arch: Looking straight into the mirror, find your arch which is vertically at, or close to the edge of your iris that lies right on the bone of your brow. Grab your eye pencil and mark the arch point, remove the hairs along the bottom, starting from the point of your inner brow then going to the peak. So your inner brow should be more thicker than the outer part of the brow. If you don't get it right the first time, there's no need for panic, you can correct this with a brow product. Don't forget that your arch may be located at a different position depending on your face shape and what you believe suits it. Also, arches aren't for everyone, sometimes just a circular or straight eyebrow shape suits certain faces.
Ending point: Grab the ruler and angle it from the edge of the nostril to the outer corner of your eye. The ruler meets a point at the brow where your brow is supposed to end. Once you've marked the end of where your eyebrow should be, pluck whatever is outside the line as you would with the starting point. However, your ending point may sacrifice your brow length as a whole so readjust the starting point or simply leave it alone if you're happy with the result after finding the starting point and the arch point.

How to find the starting point, arch and ending point (Remember, this may differ according to your face shape and your general judgement.) |
I use this technique myself and it works like a charm, according to this ratio I have the perfect ratio. For example, 5.5cm eyebrow length, 3.5cm arch length, 2.5cm tail length and 1cm thickness.
In the future, I might make a vlog on how to do this technique, but for now, hopefully the explanation and the diagrams help you out.
BEST BROW PRODUCTS
BENEFIT BROW ZINGS
This kit is probably the most expensive one I've used but it is worth it, I highly recommend it to anyone, the Benefit Cosmetics eyebrow experts sold me when a staff members applied it and told me that it lasts a long time, so you get a lot of bang and length for your buck.
Although you're provided with the works, being the wax for shaping and helping the powder stick to the brow, the shaded powder, the tweezers, the hard angle brush and blending brush. I was recommended that a longer hard angle brush was better for beginners, but if you're not bothered buying it, simply use the one provided in the kit and practice, practice, practice.
The price of this kit varies from store to store, starting from around $30-$50.
REVLON COLOURSTAY EYEBROW LINER
I was recommended this product a while ago and I can safely say that it's quite the little wonder. It was described to me as a crayon and I was shown how to use it, you simply fill in your eyebrows lightly and with the handy brow brush you smooth and soften the look, that becomes defined and accentuates those perfect brows. What I absolutely love about this product is the fact that it's so easy to use and apply, it dries quickly and last longs, it's even waterproof and smudge proof, how crazy it that! I did my research on this product, and it contains vitamin E so your skin won't dry out and is perfect for sensitive skin which is an added plus and gets the tick of approval for me.
Hopefully this post inspires your to love your eyebrows and shows you how truly important your eyebrows are.
