Brow game

As you all well know, eyebrows are essential, are of vital importance. In 'All About That Brow' I provided the best technique on doing on your own eyebrows, tried and tested by myself. In this post, I'll tell you about different products you can use to define and enhance your brows.

A general tip when buying eyebrow products is to make sure it is the right one for the shade of your brows, you don't want to get a shade too dark or too light or it'll just look really odd.

EYEBROW PENCIL/LINER

This product is similar to using eyeliner but less frustrating and easier to fix. After grooming your brows up to your standards with an eyebrow brush and you've sharpened your eyebrow pencil, lightly outline your brow shape. Using light, short strokes, proceed to filling in your brows. Once you've filled in your eyebrows, clean them up using a cotton bud or thin brush, I use either item because both are effective for cleaning and rubbing in the lines drawn to soften the look.

I typically only had a brown eyeliner pencil to test this out, but essentially the eyeliner was the right shade for my brows and I just used it the same way as previously noted, it works the same way and came out perfectly.

EYEBROW POWDER

In my opinion, powders are a lot easier to apply than brow pencils, liners and gels, and lasts a lot longer too. Brow powders might come in a kit and I highly recommend you purchase a kit that comes with a wax and the powder as a duo, this will save you time on trying to find each product as well as money as brow kits are relatively a decent price, across different brands and stores.

A brow powder should be applied in conjunction with a brow wax. Once again, use a round grooming brush, or an eyebrow grooming brush to groom your eyebrows. Be sure to have a brow brush that is angled, this could possibly come with the brow kit, but if it doesn't, simply buy one of these, it's essential in using this powder. The angled brow brush will allow you to easily apply the eyebrow wax first and then the brow powder. Applying the brow powder requires practice, it's relatively easy, and shouldn't require a stencil like some people recommend. The angled brush guides you and it becomes easier each time you do it. Practice makes perfect.

Although there are more steps into applying a brow powder, I believe it's long lasting and provides a more natural, subtle look, compared to a brow pencil or liner, which can often create a dramatic look.

EYEBROW GEL

I've only ever used an eyebrow gel once to test, and I'll admit it's easy to use, it's similar to an eyebrow pencil or liner in the way that it only takes one step, but this time, it lasts a lot longer. I describe it as a two-in-one brow kit, whereby the product is both the wax and the powder but in gel form. The same technique for applying brow powder is used for a gel. However, if you buy a brow set that is gel based, you'll merely need the round brow brush and then apply, it's sort of like a mascara for your brows. Sometimes a gel brow set is either transparent just to set your brows into shape or colour based according to your eyebrow shade. Either way, a gel is an applicator and does the same job as other products just in a different way.

I recommend defining and enhancing eyebrows with a product BEFORE applying a powder foundation, bronzer and stuck that you would normally do after applying concealer and liquid foundation, this is just a recommendation because it's easier to fix a mistake in application of a brow product, if I ever make a mistake, I usually just dust it over with powder foundation and continue with my make-up routine. It also helps the brow product set if you do everything else beforehand.

Additionally, when you fill in your eyebrows, the inner eyebrow should be lighter and sparse compared to the arch and tail which should be the most defined and darkest. Do not over fill or create hard lines when applying any eyebrow product, it is essential that products for brows are used to merely fill define and enhance to create a natural look rather than over exaggerate your brows.

NATIO BROW KIT

As research for my blog, I've been testing out brow kits, brow pencils and such, and I've come across the best product yet on this venture.

The product I tried and tested is the Natio Brow Kit, now I've been told that people find brow kits relatively challenging to use, even difficult, and I've even been told by a beauty technician that one of the products I reviewed in 'All About That Brow', being the Revlon eyebrow pencil, was better than a brow kit, a lot easier to use, and relatively cheap. But I beg to differ. Not only is this brow kit incredibly simple to use, but it's cheap. There's no need for stencils with this brow kit, actually, there's no need for stencils period. I believe practice makes perfect. However, if you're in need of a stencil, you can definitely use it to start you off and guide you but the angled brow brush that is a must-have will totally help you out and you'll get comfortable with it.

I highly, emphasis on the highly, rate the Natio Brow Kit, it's an incredible kit out of ones I've ever tried. The perks are that it won't cost you much, it comes in around at $20, depending on the store you go to. Another perk, is that it's long-lasting, it lasted me the whole day and it survives the elements which is an added bonus. To apply the product, it doesn't take me very long, so it's very efficient in that way. I only have one negative and thats probably the fact that the powder for lighter shades of brows may not be light enough for some. The dark shade palette is perfect for me, but if I overdid the application, I would use the lighter shade just fix that or blend it in further using foundation powders and such.

However, this nifty little applicator is still light and compact in size so it's perfect when you're on the go and everything you need to perfect those brows is included in the kit, including obviously the two shades of brow powders; light and medium, brow wax which is made with aloe vera and coconut oil, an angled brow brush that helps you fill, shade and sculpt, a round grooming brush, tweezers and a mirror. As you can see, I've absolutely fallen in love with brow kit and maybe you will too.
